What is craniosacral therapy?
Developed by a doctor of osteopathy, craniosacral therapy (CST) uses gentle touch, primarily on the cranium, spine, and sacral areas to release tension in the nervous system, helping the patient to return to a state of balance. This therapy has been found to be helpful in the treatment of headaches, migraines, TMJ and other jaw issues, tinnitus, neck pain, low back pain, sciatica, and many other structural issues, including some chronic and difficult to treat conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. It can also help to relieve psycho-emotional issues such as anxiety and depression, which often have aspects that are stuck in the tissues of the body.
How can cranioscral therapy help?
Life has a tendency to lead us to hold tension in our body as we try to deal with the stressors that come our way. We build up stagnation that manifests as muscle tension, stuck energy, circulation blockages, and fluid imbalances. This in turn can create a myriad of dysfunction and illness. CST gently calls your system’s attention to the areas where you are “stuck,” where there is imbalance, and/or there is a lack of flow. In doing so, your own self’s healing mechanisms are harnessed, leading them to go where they are needed and begin to undo the damage done by years of compensating for the stresses of day to day life in the modern world or from trauma, both physical and psycho-emotional.
